La Biennale di Venezia
56th International Art Exhibition, Venezia
9 May > 22 November 2015
Venice holds one of the biggest and most prestigious art exhibitions in the world—the Biennale, a can’t-miss whirlwind of events for art lovers.
Every two years, Venice becomes “the most international, global and effervescent meeting point for the art world.” This is where affluent art lovers, critics, and even a few artist themselves convene in the Serenissima to digest a diverse, delicious menu of the most freshly concocted art creations. Just know it’s a rich diet and not for those who prefer their art to be a little more lowest common denominator.
The 56th International Art Exhibition titled All the World’s Futures, is curated by Okwui Enwezor and organized by la Biennale di Venezia.
It presents works by 136 arists from 53 countries, such as Saâdane Afif, Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc, Theaster Gates, Isa Genzken, Hans Haacke, Mika Rottenberg, Sarah Sze, and Rirkrit Tiravanija.
89 artists are showing here for the first time. The exhibition starts at the Central Pavilion in the Giardini and continues at the Arsenale.
Each Biennale is larger than the last, attracting more and more art lovers from around the world. In 2013, the Biennale featured the works of 150 artists housed in 88 country pavilions and counted 475,000 visitors during the seven months after it opened its doors.
